The Grand Canyon - Still Grand!

Took a Micron pen, a packet of colored pencils and a watercolor brush, along with a couple pieces of Arches Rough Watercolor Board to the Grand Canyon early this month.  Had a wonderful, if brief trip - arrived on the train from Williams, Arizona with some favorite family.

Woke up early enough the one morning we were on the South Rim to enjoy sunrise from the Bright Angel Trail.   Spectacular!  There's something about being below the rim that is so magical!

I had forgotten the scale of the place.   Looking down on the trail, I could barely fathom how I had hiked down to Phantom Ranch twice in the 1980's.

After a half hour of taking photos, I sat on a rock, hauled out my bottle of water, pen, pencils and board, and did this plein air sketch.

Meanwhile, back in California, thirteen of us local artists are gearing up for our second annual Rancho Cordova Holiday Art Gallery.  It will open for three consecutive 3-day weekends, starting Thanksgiving weekend.  Hours are 11am to 7pm each of those nine days.  I'll have plenty of paintings and tea cup cards on hand!  3231 Zinfandel, Suite C, Rancho Cordova, CA.
