Summer 2023 was a productive season for me. A couple of our dear friends moved to Spain in June, leaving me with some small pieces of vintage furniture - a solid mahogany hutch, a solid maple Haywood Wakefield ‘Kohinoor’ mid-century modern nightstand, a child’s wooden chair, a cute little drop-leaf sidetable whose veneer had seen better days. Oh, I had so much fun with these!
As I removed 7 or 8 colors of paint from the hutch, I began thinking of each piece having 9 lives, some of which had been lived, and asking, Just What Does This Piece Want to Be in THIS Life? The transformations mean I’ve puttied, scraped, sanded, primed, painted and sealed these into fun, one-of-a-kind artsy furniture treasures in time for winter art fest. There’s a lot of love in these pieces!
I’ll have these, my tea cup cards and some little stocking stuffers in time for Christmas. Come see me and say Hi! at Winter Art Fest at the MACC (Mills Station Arts & Culture Center, 10191 Mills Station Road, Rancho Cordova, California) two weekends, Friday - Sundays, 27-29 November & 1-3 December 2023 from 12Noon to 7pm each day. I’ll be there as one of two dozen artists showing our unique artworks.
