Fun Events October - December 2019!

It’s almost here! Small Art for a Big Cause: MicroMasterpieces go on sale from 5:30pm to 7:30pm on Wednesday, October 23, 2019, upstairs at Rancho Cordova City Hall. All artwork measures 6” X 6”, and most sell for $20, including sales tax. This is our 501(c)3 nonprofit, Rancho Cordova Art’s 2nd annual fundraiser to support its programs, events and classes. I just finished my first ‘Micro’, inspired by the Nature Show at the MACC last month. I had so much fun co-teaching the free public workshop on making a beehive (lots of hexagons), I did one more on a 6” X 6” format. Donations of art are due on or before Thursday, October 17th at City Hall.

Oh - and about that Nature Show… Did you know (I didn’t!) that mushrooms take in oxygen and release carbon dioxide? Doesn’t that make them members of the animal kingdom, rather than the plant kingdom? WOW!

Save another Date! Rancho Cordova Arts’ 5-year tradition of the Holiday Pop-Up Art Gallery has been expanded into WINTER ART FEST at the MACC (Mills Station Arts & Culture Center). It runs from 12noon to 7pm from Friday-Sunday, November 29, 30 & December 1, then Thursday-Sunday, December 5-8, 2019. It’s free and the public is invited! Come have some fun, making art you can take with you in our mini-Maker Space/Creative Corner, or catch a movie or workshop by a featured artist upstairs. We have some great materials for you to have fun with - blank puzzles, sand art necklaces, metallic pipecleaner crowns and magic wands - wheeeee! Downstairs we’ll have a cooperative gallery of 17 juried local artists. Artist Reception is on Thursday, December 5th from 3pm to 7pm. Live Music! Come enjoy!!

Just a quick THANK YOU for all of you who stopped by to say ‘Hi’ at Open Studios and the River City Quilters Guild Quilt and Fabric Art Fest!! This year, I’ve been making small art (mostly 4” X 4”), and now I find, that I’ll need to get busy making more for the Winter Art Fest! My goal in art is to spread the joy, and it means a lot to me when someone resonates with a piece of art, or an art card. And thank you for the wonderfully positive response to my new cat cards! This was a test run of 3 different designs, and more are in the works!

Come say 'Hi' at these fun fall events!

Being overbooked makes one focus on priorities, and since time to make art is limited - and I can’t not make art - I’ve limited the size of my paintings this year. Am focusing on things that bring me joy, and am having such a good time doing it!

Am gearing up to spread the joy farther this fall! Here are some of the events where you can find me and my artwork. Come say ‘Hi’ and see some of these small (4”x4” and 5” x 5” watercolor and ink, alcohol ink on Yupo, and oil pastel - all matted and framed to 8” x 8”) originals!

September 21 & 22, 2019 (Saturday & Sunday 10am - 5pm) - It’s Open Studios in Rancho Cordova! Come by the MACC (Mills Station Arts & Culture Center) at 10191 Mills Station Road (located at the Mather/Mills Light Rail Station in Rancho Cordova, CA). Six or seven of us Rancho Cordova artists will be there, showing and demonstrating our creative works all day in a fun party atmosphere. You can pick up a catalog at the MACC during the Natural Wonders show in September. (More info on www.rcmacc.org)

I’ll be demonstrating something geeky at 3pm both days - how to make your own watercolor color reference charts, where two pigments are mixed in every combination and degrees of dark to pale. I have a binder full of these charts, and its amazing how helpful they are! Sometimes you really ‘can’t get there from here’ with two colors…but sometimes you can!

The following weekend, September 27, 28, 29 (Friday-Sunday 10am-5pm), I’ll be showing my tea cup cards and paintings at the River City Quilters Guild ‘Annual Quilt and Fabric Art’ Show at the McClellan Conference Center, 5411 Luce Avenue, McClellan, CA. (Off Watt Avenue near Madison Avenue - on the former Air Force Base). I’m excited - will be set up in the same room as the quilts and textile art - first time showing at a trade show. This is a popular show - over 10,000 attendees are anticipated. Should be a crazy-good time! And stop by the Rancho Cordova Arts booth nearby - they will be passing out flyers for our future art events!
